We are year 8 students who were selected from Bankstown Girls High School to participate in a guided inquiry program. In this program we were given an assessment task. The aim of this task is to present the details of one global issue in a creative manner that would maintain ones interest. We were given time to make a decision as to which issue we were most interested in presenting about. Some groups chose racism, some chose disability, however we decided to choose women’s rights.

Our decision to talk and research about women's rights was because it is a contemporary issue in today's society. It is an issue that effects women all around the world including us, so we thought why not spread the word about an issue that affects ourselves. This way we would really have something to fight for. When doing brief research of this topic we discovered the outrageous reality of how gender discrimination is used to deny women's education, used and resulted to the risk of women's safety and used to create an unequal society in every corner of the globe. We discovered many recent global events that associate with women's rights, such as the rise of Malala Yousafzai’s iconic impact – this being our case study for the issue. After gaining knowledge of all this rich history and monumental moments in the women's rights timeline, we were intrigued. It led us to being highly passionate and fascinated about women's rights. From that is how we came to the definite choice for our assesment task.

We were contemplating different ways and ideas to spread the word and inform people about all the aspects of women's rights issues. Our aimed audience for the topic is the majority of the Australian public so this is when we decided to create a website. We thought using media could give us the opportunity to further explain the issue, so using a powerful communication tool – a website was the perfect idea.
