What Are Women's Rights

Women's rights are rights which are equal to men and claimed by women and girls. They come in the form of social, economic, political and civil rights. Some examples of women's rights are

              Economic                                                      Social                                               Civil                                               Political

- the right to own property                        - right to an education             - legal and contract rights            - right to vote

- the right to own wages and income      - freedom of religion                 - equality of citizenships              - right to run for political   - access to jobs, trades, profession            - right to abortion                     - right to sue in court                       office

- equality of treatment within jobs                                                                 - right to marriage and divorce

- right to maternity leave                                                                                   - right to serve as an attorney

However, these great advancements in women's rights would not have occured without feminists movements worldwide in the 19th century. These feminist movements lead to the global recognition of women's rights so much so that New Zealand became the first country to grant women the right to vote in 1893.

Women in many countries around the world are not treated equally to men. They are deprived from basic privileges such as the political, social and economic rights. This is discrimination by the gender. Despite the strive of many empowering women around the world fighting against this issue, we are still being treated unequally. As the inferior, as the gender being denied access and as the gender being viewed by the society as unequal to men.

Women's rights deprivation is a worldwide issue, this is due to many differeent reasons. Some of which include  a diverse range of religions that believe that men should be more cherished than woman. That men deserve a higher rank in the now patriarchal society and a larger variety of rights received. This is inequality between the genders and discrimination towards women.

However besides religious and culture reasons, women are being discriminated in different areas and societies as we are viewed as ones who should undoubtedly be the ‘house wife’. One who do not deserve and education, career or even the simplest of privileges. Even so only expected to marry, provide maternal care and support the spouse. This results in decreasing women's education while represents society’s opinion and participation in women discrimination and unequal human rights.

Traditional values and the patriarchal society, is also an explanation towards women's deprivation of human rights. For example women may be discriminated because of traits that we inherit. This means giving birth, getting pregnant and breast feeding. This is arguably a reason towards the issue, since we carry these traits some believe that this illustrates women as the soft or more vulnerable gender. Hence causing gender inequality.
